(1bi)

(i) Firstly, the net force acting upon the object must be zero.

(ii) Secondly, the net torque acting upon the object must also be zero.

(1bii.)

Let F1 = 4N and F2 = 3N.

Resultant force (R) = √(F1^2 + F2^2)

= √((4N)^2 + (3N)^2)

= √(16N^2 + 9N^2)

= √(25N^2)

= 5N

(1axi)

(i) I avoided parallax error by placing my eyes vertically on the meter rule when taking my readings.

(ii) I avoided drought.

(iii) I avoided Zero error by making necessary adjustment to the meter rule before starting the practicals.

(i) The light ray moves from a more dense medium to a less dense medium.

The Snell’s law of refraction states that: The incident ray, the refracted ray and the normal at the point of incidence, all lie in the same plane.

Snell’s law states that the ratio of the sine of the angle of incidence (θ₁) to the sine of the angle of refraction (θ₂) is equal to the ratio of the velocities of light in the two media, which is also equal to the inverse ratio of their refractive indices.

  1. (a) The kinetic theory states that all matter is made up of tiny particles (atoms or molecules) that are in constant motion. Diffusion is the process by which these particles move from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration, due to their random motion. This occurs because the particles collide with each other and bounce off in different directions, spreading out over time. The rate of diffusion depends on factors such as temperature, pressure, and the size and shape of the particles. In general, diffusion is faster at higher temperatures and lower pressures, and for smaller particles that can move more easily through a medium.

7a) Fibre optics is a technology that uses thin, flexible fibres made of glass or plastic to transmit data in the form of light signals over long distances.

7b)- Higher bandwidth: Optical fibres can carry more data over longer distances than copper cables without degradation of the signal. This makes them ideal for high-speed internet connections, video streaming, and other data-intensive applications.- Immunity to electromagnetic interference: Unlike copper cables, optical fibres are not affected by electromagnetic interference from other devices or sources. This makes them more reliable and less prone to signal loss or distortion.
